Agartala, March 07: Tipra Motha, the principal opposition party of Tripura, officially joined the BJP-led Tripura government on Thursday, marking a significant development following the signing of the tripartite agreement on the ‘Constitutional Solution’ for the indigenous people of the state.

The induction of two MLAs from the opposition party into the state cabinet underscores a new chapter in Tripura’s political landscape.

Opposition leader Animesh Debbarma and MLA Brishaketu Debbarma took the oath as ministers in a ceremony administered by Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu at Raj Bhavan this morning. The oath-taking ceremony heralds a fresh phase of collaboration between Tipra Motha and the ruling BJP.

Before assuming their new roles as ministers, Animesh resigned as the leader of the opposition before the Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Biswabandhu Sen.

Addressing reporters after the ceremony, Animesh reiterated his commitment to addressing the grievances of the common people and emphasized that the core demand for Greater Tipraland remains a priority for the party.

Expressing his determination to tackle pressing issues faced by the populace, Animesh highlighted concerns such as infrastructure, water supply, and food security.

He refrained from commenting on his previous remarks criticizing the Tripura Budget 2024-25, focusing instead on his vision for proactive governance.

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, commenting on the new appointments, assured that department allocations for the newly inducted ministers would be disclosed soon.

He underscored the collective effort of tribal and non-tribal communities in advancing Tripura’s prosperity and hinted at forthcoming decisions regarding candidate selection for the East Tripura Assembly.

The tripartite agreement signed between Tipra Motha, the Government of India, and Tripura on March 2, 2024, signifies a commitment to addressing historical grievances and ensuring the welfare of indigenous communities.

The agreement pledges to resolve issues related to land rights, economic development, cultural preservation, and political representation through a Joint Working Group/Committee, fostering a conducive environment for constructive dialogue and progress.
