Kolkata, Nov 28: Trinamool Congress (TMC) has decided to mark the day of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s arrival in Kolkata for a BJP mega rally as a ‘Black Day.’ Members of the party’s legislative team in West Bengal will attend the ongoing Winter Session of the House on Wednesday wearing black clothes in protest.

The rally, scheduled at the same venue where the ruling Trinamool Congress holds its annual Martyr’s Day function on July 21, is organized to protest against irregularities in the implementation of the 100-day job scheme under MGNREGA. Union Minister of State for Rural Development Giriraj Singh and State Minister Niranjan Jyoti are expected to attend the rally alongside Amit Shah.

The Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, dismissed the TMC’s move, stating that protests like wearing black clothes within the House are meaningless as there will be no representative of the Union Government present.

In addition to observing a ‘Black Day’ on Wednesday, the Trinamool Congress plans to hold a two-hour protest for three consecutive days starting Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The protest aims to highlight the non-payment of central dues to West Bengal under various centrally-sponsored schemes, including MGNREGA.
