Agartala, June 29: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and expressed his heartfelt condolences following the tragic accident during the Ulta Rath Yatra in the Unakoti district of Tripura.

The mishap resulted in the death of seven individuals, while 16 others sustained burn injuries due to electrocution. The state government has taken immediate action to provide support, including bearing all expenses for the treatment of the injured.

Chief Minister Saha visited the site of the incident and personally assessed the situation. He expressed disbelief, stating that such an unfortunate incident had never occurred in the history of Tripura.

The mishap happened when a chariot during the Ulta Rath Yatra came in contact with a wire, leading to electrocution. While those inside the chariot remained unharmed, individuals on the stairway lost their lives on the spot.

The injured victims have been admitted to Fatikroy, Kumarghat, and GB Pant hospitals for medical treatment. CM Saha visited these hospitals to meet the victims and their families, ensuring that the Health Department Authority and Chief Secretary take necessary measures for their proper treatment. The government has also decided to provide immediate relief measures, offering Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.

Furthermore, the government has set compensation amounts for burn injuries. Individuals with burn injuries exceeding 60 percent will receive Rs 2.50 lakh, while those with burn injuries ranging from 40 to 60 percent will be granted Rs 74,000. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government stands with the families of the deceased and the injured, assuring them of all necessary support.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed deep grief over the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased person. Additionally, Rs 50,000 will be provided to those injured in the mishap.

In a tweet, PM Modi said, “The mishap during the Ulta Rath Yatra at Kumarghat is saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this mishap. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected.”

The incident has shocked the community and the nation as a whole. Authorities are working diligently to ensure proper medical care for the injured and extend support to the affected families. The focus remains on providing relief and compensation to the victims while taking measures to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.

“Rs. 2 lakh ex-gratia from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased, and Rs. 50,000 would be given to those injured in the mishap in Tripura,” Modi added.
