Guwahati, Feb 28: Train services faced significant delays in Assam following an attempted theft of newly installed electric wires near Selenghat station.

The incident occurred between Simaluguri Jn and Mariani Jn stations on Tuesday night when miscreants tried to sever and steal the wires.

Although the wires were not yet operational, the attempted theft resulted in several coaches of the 20503 Dibrugarh – New Delhi Rajdhani Express getting entangled in the damaged wires. Prompt response teams dispatched technicians from Mariani Jn to address the situation.

The disruption caused delays to multiple trains, including the Vivek Express, Kamrup Express, and two Rajdhani Express trains bound for New Delhi from Dibrugarh.

Passengers experienced inconvenience as the affected trains were unable to proceed with their journeys.

Fortunately, railway authorities managed to clear the wires by approximately 1:35 am, allowing the affected trains to resume their trips.

However, the trains departing from Dibrugarh the previous day are currently running more than four hours behind schedule, further inconveniencing passengers and disrupting travel plans.
