Kolkata, March 10: Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) gears up to kickstart its 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign with a massive rally – ‘Jana Garjan Sabha’ – at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Grounds on Sunday.

The rally, led by Mamata Banerjee and TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, aims to set the tone for the upcoming elections.

Ahead of the rally, Mamata Banerjee rallied support through a video on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing Bengal’s resilience and urging people to join the march.

The event, themed around the alleged withholding of the state’s financial dues by the central government, is expected to draw six to eight lakh supporters and numerous block-level leaders from various districts.

The TMC’s rally will feature innovative platforms designed to enhance engagement and grassroots connection, providing a closer interaction between leaders and supporters during speeches.

The rally serves as a platform to address longstanding grievances and mobilize public support for the party’s vision of Bengal’s future.

However, the BJP, TMC’s political rival, has mocked the rally, labeling it the party’s “farewell rally” and characterizing TMC leaders as “goons and corrupt.”

Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari predicted their “impending downfall” amidst allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

The timing of the rally is significant, coming a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bengal, where he accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of “looting” the state’s resources.

Modi’s remarks, targeting alleged corruption and malpractice within the TMC government, underscore the intense political rivalry ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

As Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee prepare to address the mammoth gathering at Brigade Parade Grounds, the rally serves as a crucial battleground for both the TMC and BJP to rally support and shape the narrative leading up to the polls.
