Syama Prasad

Agartala, July 07: The government of Tripura has launched a week-long program at the school level to commemorate the life, philosophy, and thoughts of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangha and India’s first Minister of Industry, on the occasion of his 123rd birth anniversary.

In addition to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs organized colorful events throughout the state, including an exhibition showcasing paintings and photography highlighting Mukherjee’s life and work, as well as an essay competition for college students.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, while addressing the central function for Mukherjee’s birthday celebration, stated that schools have been instructed to organize seminars and interactive sessions with students in the next week to inspire them to learn about the unsung hero of India who had been neglected in history over the years.

Saha further emphasized that the contributions of Mukherjee to India’s freedom struggle and the development of education in West Bengal had been suppressed until Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014. He expressed disappointment that Mukherjee, who was once the youngest vice-chancellor of Calcutta University during a time when it was compared to Oxford University, is not duly remembered in his home state.

The week-long celebrations aim to shed light on the life and accomplishments of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, a visionary leader and an integral part of India’s history. His contributions to the nation’s struggle for independence and his efforts in the field of education are of great significance. Through the exhibition of paintings and photography, the public will have the opportunity to delve into the inspiring journey of this remarkable personality.

The essay competition organized for college students provides a platform for young minds to express their thoughts and reflections on Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s legacy. It encourages them to delve into his ideas, principles, and contributions to the nation’s progress. Such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering awareness and appreciation for the leaders who have shaped India’s history.

By organizing these celebrations and spreading awareness about his life and work, Tripura is taking a step towards rectifying this oversight. Dr. Mukherjee’s ideals and principles continue to resonate in today’s India, and the younger generation needs to be acquainted with his vision for the country’s growth and development.
