Agartala, Feb 18: Tripura police announced on Saturday that they have taken action against an individual for allegedly engaging in the unauthorized collection of personal information to enroll individuals under the recently launched Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana (CM-JAY), which offers free health insurance coverage to beneficiaries.

According to authorities, upon receiving a tip-off, law enforcement officials intervened and shut down a camp in Agartala that was issuing beneficiary cards for the scheme at a local club.

Subsequently, they arrested a man named Babul Roy Chowdhury, who was reportedly charging Rs. 250 for each card.

The launch of CM-JAY by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha marked a significant step towards ensuring healthcare access for every citizen in the state.

Modeled after the PM-Jan Arogya Yojana, CM-JAY aims to provide coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakhs to 415,000 families, including government employees.

Binoy Bhushan Das, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC), clarified that the individual involved in the illegal activity was not associated with any authority.

While Chowdhury may have had prior experience with such services, his actions in this instance were deemed unlawful, prompting the filing of a complaint against him.
