This innovative feature initially launched in 2021 and now available globally, has prevented around 1.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, as per Google’s environmental report.

  2. Utilizing the Feature: To access this eco-friendly routing option:
    • Open the Google Maps app.
    • Tap on your profile picture, then access ‘Settings’.
    • Within ‘Settings,’ select ‘Navigation.’
    • Scroll down to ‘Route options’ and activate ‘Prefer fuel-efficient routes.’
    • Further personalize by tapping ‘Engine type’ and choosing Gas, Diesel, Hybrid, or Electric based on your vehicle.

Users can view relative fuel or energy savings between routes, empowering them to make informed choices. If the eco-friendly route aligns with similar arrival times and doesn’t involve significant detours, it becomes the recommended choice.
