Assam, June 4: An IAS officer Varnali Deka take the charge as the Mission Director of Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) and Director of Assam Administrative Staff College.

ASDM welcome the new Mission Director Varnali Deka and bid farewell to our former Mission Director Anand Prakash Tiwari.

ASDM took a tweet to announce the news and said “We bid farewell to our former Mission Director Anand Prakash Tiwari, IPS, as he hands over charge to Varnali Deka, IAS. We are thankful to Sir for his kind leadership which led us to achieve great success in the field.”

“We welcome our new Misson Director Varnali Deka who has taken charge on 2nd June 2021. Smt. Deka is an IAS officer of the 2019 batch and has previously served as the Deputy Commissioners, Goalpara, Golaghat and Barpeta besides postings like Chief Executive Officer, Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, Mission Director of Missions like Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Urban), AYUSH, Executive Director, SSA, Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, and so on. An alumna of IIT Bombay, she is an engineer and holds an MBA in Systems and Operations and was previously in the IPS besides serving in the corporate sector. We extend a warm welcome to her on behalf of the entire skill ecosystem of Assam. We are extremely delighted and excited to have her on board and look forward to her able leadership,” the institute added.

The newly appointed IAS officer Varnali Deka shared the glimpse of the first day taking stoke as Mission Director, ASDM and Director, Assam Administrative Staff College – two priority areas of Governance and Government.

Assam Skill Development Mission was set up under the aegis of the Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Department. The vision of the mission is capacity building of the unemployed youth and to deliver quality skill training leading to meaningful employment.

ASDM signed an MoU with ITEES, Singapore as the Global Knowledge Partner for establishing the North East Skill Centre (NESC) at Guwahati. The objective of establishing an NESC is to offer high-quality skills training for the masses especially the rural youth. In the first phase, NESC will provide training under the following sectors: Retail, Beauty & Wellness, and Hospitality- Housekeeping and Hospitality – F&B Services.

ASDM has trained at least 1,18,585 candidates. For the financial year 2020-21, the total target of 26,600 has been allotted to 396 training Centres, covering 33 districts in 24 Sectors and 83 unique job roles.

The centres were launched in December 2017, with a vision to provide Short Term Training to the youth so it helps them to gain employment in the state, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all the training centres across the state were closed from March 2020.
