Weather Update, May 19: In the northeastern states, a trough is expected to stall over Northeast India in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim bringing in wet southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal.

This weather system will result in heavy rainfall at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya from May 19 to May 23. Additionally, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to experience heavy rain on May 19. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also expected to accompany the rainfall in these areas.

Furthermore, the northeastern region as a whole can expect light to moderate widespread rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, during this period.

Moving to South India, another trough and wind discontinuity will bring light to moderate isolated rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across most parts of the extreme southern peninsular region until May 23.

Meanwhile, the Western Himalayan Region will be impacted by a series of Western Disturbances, which may result in dust storms in isolated pockets of Rajasthan on May 22-23. In Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh, light to moderate isolated rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, is expected on May 22-23.

As for the temperatures, parts of south Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh may experience heatwave conditions from May 20 to May 23.

The combination of humid air and high temperatures will create hot and discomforting weather in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Konkan, Goa, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh until May 23.

Additionally, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and the west coast of India can expect hot weather on May 19-20. However, maximum temperatures across India are expected to be near or below normal during this period, except for the west coast, where above-normal readings are anticipated.

Regarding minimum temperatures, they are projected to be near or slightly above normal across India throughout the forecast period.
