Bengal rains

Weather Update, Sept 21: Eastern and Northeastern India is currently experiencing widespread heavy rains due to a low-pressure area and associated cyclonic circulation near the West Bengal-North Odisha coast. These weather conditions are expected to persist in various regions over the next few days.

On September 21-22, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, and Jharkhand are likely to witness light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Isolated heavy rainfall is also anticipated in Odisha on September 21.

Bihar can expect rainfall on September 22, 23, and 25, while the Andaman-Nicobar Islands may experience wet weather from September 22-25. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim should prepare for isolated very heavy rainfall on September 21-22.

In the northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur, heavy rainfall is forecasted from September 21-25.

Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh should brace for similar weather conditions on September 21-22, followed by West Madhya Pradesh from September 21-23, and East Uttar Pradesh on September 22.

A separate cyclonic circulation around Kutch is weakening, but Konkan can still expect light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, along with isolated heavy rainfall.

On September 21, Kerala is likely to experience wet weather, while interior Tamil Nadu can expect rains from September 21-23.

During this period, maximum temperatures will be below normal in the desert area and adjoining semi-arid regions. However, overnight minimum temperatures will remain slightly above normal across much of the country for the next 5 days.
