Aizawl, Dec 04: The conclusion of the Mizoram elections marks the rise of a new regional force, the Zoram People’s Movement Party (ZPM), which has achieved an ‘absolute majority,’ displacing the Mizo National Front (MNF).

Leading the ZPM is Lalduhoma, a 74-year-old ex-IPS officer turned politician, and the Chief Ministerial candidate. Lalduhoma boasts a diverse political journey, having served as the head of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s security when he was an IPS officer.

In a notable turn of events in 1984, Lalduhoma became the first Member of Parliament (MP) to be disqualified under the anti-defection law. Despite facing disqualification again in 2020 as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, he made a successful comeback in 2021 by winning the by-elections.
