ZPM farmers

Aizawl, Sept 14: The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Mizoram’s primary opposition party, has made it clear that its top priority, should it come to power, will be to elevate the status of farmers in the state. K. Sapdanga, the working president of ZPM, emphasized this commitment during an address to party workers in the Hrangturzo assembly constituency.

Sapdanga stated that improving the living standards of farmers is paramount, and the party will also focus on youth development. He highlighted the importance of supporting farmers, as purchasing their produce not only benefits them but also aids vendors, taxi drivers, and other traders within the community.

The ZPM leader asserted that both government employees and farmers are eager for the upcoming assembly polls, with government employees hoping for a new administration that can ensure timely salary payments.

Sapdanga expressed concerns about the youth population, attributing issues such as drug abuse to the government’s shortcomings. He claimed that ZPM candidates have pledged to refrain from engaging in corruption and using financial influence during their campaigns.

ZPM has already announced the names of 39 candidates for the forthcoming assembly polls, which are scheduled for later this year. The party has yet to announce its candidate for the Tuichawng constituency, which is dominated by the Chakma community.

In the Hrangturzo constituency, the party will field its general secretary, Lalmuanpuia Punte. Sapdanga urged the people of Hrangturzo to vote for their candidate, emphasizing that the party has put forward one of the best candidates for the constituency.

Meanwhile, preparations for the assembly elections are underway, despite speculation about the possibility of One Nation, One Election. Election officials have stated that they have not received any instructions from the Election Commission of India to halt the ongoing preparations.
