New Delhi, Dec 06: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the Lok Sabha, emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured India’s unity with “one flag, one constitution.” This statement was an apparent reference to the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.

Shah underscored that the idea of “one flag, one prime minister, one constitution” is not merely a political slogan for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but a deeply held principle, and it has been realized, particularly concerning Jammu and Kashmir.

Responding to TMC’s Saugata Roy, who referred to “ek nishan, ek pradhan, ek samvidhan” as a “political slogan,” Shah questioned the feasibility of having two prime ministers, two constitutions, and two flags for a single country. He deemed Roy’s comments “objectionable” and asserted that the BJP firmly believes in the principle of “one symbol, one head, one Constitution.”

Shah went on to state that this principle has been a consistent stance of the party since 1950, advocating for one Prime Minister, one flag, and one Constitution for the entire country.

Addressing the abrogation of Article 370, Shah mentioned, “Whosoever did it was wrong. Narendra Modi has corrected it. Your approval or disagreement does not matter. The entire country wanted it.”

In response to Saugata Roy’s speech on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, Union Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized that while Roy mentioned Syama Prasad Mukherjee, he should have also acknowledged Mukherjee’s sacrifice. Roy, who claimed “ek nishan, ek pradhan, ek samvidhan” as his slogan, defended it as a “political slogan.”

Amit Shah, rising to respond, reiterated the significance of the principle and defended the government’s actions in line with this commitment. The discussion underscores the political significance of the BJP’s approach to national unity and the implementation of key policy decisions, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.
