Itanagar, Sep 21: The 2nd State-Level Annual School Sports Meet 2024 concluded with great fanfare at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Naharlagun, marking a pivotal moment for youth sports in Arunachal Pradesh.
Organized by Samagra Shiksha/ISSE under the state government, the tournament highlighted the Under-17 Boys and Girls Football categories, showcasing the region’s emerging athletic talent.
The finals were fiercely contested, with East Kameng securing victory against Anjaw in the Girls’ U-17 category and West Siang triumphing over Papum Pare in the Boys’ U-17 final. Both teams demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship, highlighting the potential of Arunachal’s youth in athletics.
The closing ceremony featured Kento Jini, the Minister of Law, Legislative & Justice, Social Justice Empowerment, Tribal Affairs, Sports & Youth Affairs, as the Chief Guest, alongside ICR Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom as the Guest of Honour, lending further prestige to the event.

In his speech, Sports Minister Kento Jini reaffirmed the state’s commitment to nurturing sports talent, emphasizing that under Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s leadership, the government is dedicated to unlocking the immense potential of Arunachal athletes.
He announced ambitious plans for international training programs aimed at preparing athletes for the 2028 and 2032 Olympic Games and other global championships.
Additionally, Jini noted that every school in the state now has a designated sports teacher and a dedicated sports training period, ensuring students are groomed from an early age.
“Our athletes have already won hundreds of medals in various sports, and I am confident they will continue to bring pride to Arunachal Pradesh in future competitions,” he declared, emphasizing the importance of grassroots sports development.
