Sports, June 13: Three karate athletes from Arunachal Pradesh, namely Johny Mangkhiya, Abab Sangdo, and Mesom Singhi, have been selected to represent India at the upcoming BRICS Games in Kazan, Russia, scheduled from June 12 to 23.

Mangkhiya will compete in Kumite, while Sangdo and Singhi will participate in the Kata event.

Originally chosen for the 19th Asian Games in China last year, the trio faced visa complications that prevented their participation.

They now form part of an eight-member Indian karate team, comprising four male and four female athletes.

The BRICS Games, an annual multi-sport event organized by the rotating BRICS chair, will feature participants from non-BRICS nations for the first time this year.

The competition will encompass 27 sports, highlighting its expanded international scope.
