Guwahati, Nov 26: Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on November 26 the commencement of construction on the state’s longest flyover, connecting Dighalipukhuri to Bamunimaidan. The ambitious project, aimed at relieving congestion and enhancing regional connectivity, is slated for completion by 2026.

During the announcement, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the importance of community cooperation for successfully realising this significant infrastructure development. He urged citizens to support the construction efforts, highlighting the positive impact the flyover would have on improving transportation in the region.

This development follows the recent inauguration of the Shraddhanjali Flyover over Zoo Road in Guwahati on October 18, 2023. The flyover, unveiled on the auspicious occasion of Maha Panchami, has already proven instrumental in alleviating traffic congestion in the city.

The push for enhanced infrastructure gained momentum with the inauguration of Maligaon’s ‘Nilachal Flyover’ on August 30, 2023. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to addressing transportation challenges and fostering improved connectivity in the state.

Looking back to October 2022, Chief Minister Sarma ceremonially inaugurated the Arya Nagar Flyover, a crucial addition to the region’s infrastructure landscape. Stretching over 790 meters and constructed at approximately Rs 149.07 crore, the flyover has played a pivotal role in enhancing local transportation infrastructure.
