Guwahati, Nov 26: Assam cabinet minister Ranjit Kumar Dass expressed confidence today, predicting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to secure victory in 11 seats during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state, scheduled for March-April next year.

Speaking at a public rally in Salbari, Dass outlined the party’s ambitious target of 12 seats, emphasizing that they are aiming for nothing less than 11. He highlighted the BJP’s historical trend of growth in Lok Sabha representation, emphasizing the party’s continuous expansion.

Dass provided context to the BJP’s historical performance, noting that from four Lok Sabha MPs, the party gradually increased to seven during Sarbananda Sonowal’s tenure as party president. Under Dass’s leadership, it rose to nine seats. Presently, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the state president, Dass affirmed expectations of securing a minimum of 11 seats, with optimism for achieving the target of 12.

Regarding seat distribution among allies, Dass disclosed that, based on their understanding, the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat is likely to be contested by the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), one of BJP’s allies.

He emphasized the BJP’s collaborative approach with its allies, including the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), ensuring clarity in seat allocation. While expressing confidence in UPPL’s potential claim on the Kokrajhar seat, Dass underscored ongoing discussions and decision-making processes within the alliance to prevent rumors and dissension in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
