Guwahati, Feb 25: Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah challenged the BJP’s dominance in the state during a rally in Darrang, questioning Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s invocation of the Congress name before Lord Ram at dawn.
Borah criticized the BJP’s governance, citing the rising prices of commodities despite promises of relief through schemes like Orunodoi.
He contrasted this with Congress-led states where cylinder prices remain lower, presenting a vision for Assam that includes financial assistance of Rs 2500 per month to every woman if the party comes to power.

Addressing concerns of Assam employees, Borah highlighted the BJP’s resistance to reinstating the old pension policy and criticized the government’s accumulation of excessive debts, transforming what was once hailed as a ‘double engine government’ into a ‘trouble engine government.’
Ahead of the upcoming elections, Borah urged voters to prioritize the nation and its constitution over personal or religious affiliations, advocating for politics centered on development rather than divisive rhetoric.
Reflecting on the sacrifices of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Borah emphasized the importance of upholding truth and integrity in governance, questioning the suppression of voices such as the halt of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Guwahati by the BJP government.
