Assam tally rises to 5000 with 102 new COVID-19 positive cases, state tests over 2.58 lakh samples

Guwahati, June 20: Assam tally has crossed 5000 mark in the numbers of COVID-19 positive cases with the state has registered 102 new positive cases for the novel Coronavirus in last 24 hours.

The state has so far reported 5006 positive cases for the deadly virus.

The positive cases for COVID-19 have been doubled in the state in 13 days.

Till June 6, the state had reported 2473 COVID-19 positive cases and it was gone up to 3900 on June 13 and 4510 on June 16.

In the last 13 days, the state has reported 2533 positive cases for the new virus with an average of 194.84 cases per day.

Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 102 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in the state in the last 24 hours.

He tweeted – “102 new #COVID19+ cases detected. Numbers in the graphic tell the story of the tireless work of our doctors and paramedic staff. Over 61% of the total patients are back home. The remaining shall soon go back. Our testing continues.”

On the other hand, a total of 3066 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from the hospitals of the state and it is 61.24 per cent of the total cases detected in the state so far.

The state has now 1928 active positive cases for COVID-19.

On the other hand, the state has ramped up the tests for COVID-19 as the state has tested over 12,000 samples for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.

Assam has so far tested 258797 samples for COVID-19 at 12 laboratories.
