2. Ghosh instructed to explain comments and apologize for mocking Banerjee’s family background.
3. Controversy arises after Ghosh’s comments on Banerjee’s lineage, triggering backlash from TMC.
Kolkata, March 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a show-cause notice to its MP Dilip Ghosh for his controversial remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Ghosh is asked to explain his comments and issue an apology for his statement, which mocked Banerjee’s family background.
The controversy arose when Ghosh, contesting from Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, questioned Banerjee’s identification with various states she visits, challenging the authenticity of her claim to represent Bengal.
TMC filed a complaint with the Election Commission, accusing Ghosh of violating the model code of conduct and reflecting a culture of misogyny within the BJP.

TMC condemned Ghosh’s remarks, labeling him a disgrace to political leadership, and criticized his disrespect towards women in power.
The party emphasized Ghosh’s lack of respect for Bengal’s women, including the revered goddess Durga and the state’s only woman Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee.
The incident adds fuel to the ongoing ‘insider-outsider’ debate in West Bengal, with TMC emphasizing Bengali sub-nationalism against BJP’s Hindutva narrative during the Assembly elections.
