Kolkata, April 27: The Trinamool Congress has complained to the Election Commission against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Security Guard (NSG), accusing them of conducting “unscrupulous raids at empty locations in the state on vote day (April 26).”

The complaint alleges that the CBI’s raid in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, during the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections, 2024, was an attempt to tarnish the image of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).

The party expressed doubts about the authenticity of the weapons seized during the raid, suggesting that they might have been planted by the CBI or NSG.

According to the complaint, the CBI did not provide actionable notice to the State Government or police authorities before conducting the raid, despite ‘law and order’ being under the state’s jurisdiction.

The Trinamool’s move follows the CBI’s seizure of arms and ammunition, including a police service revolver and foreign-made firearms, from the premises of an associate of now-suspended TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali.

The raid was conducted in connection with a January attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team, allegedly instigated by Sheikh, who was subsequently arrested by the West Bengal police.

Abu Taleb Mollah, the owner of the house where the weapons were seized, is reportedly a relative of Sheikh. However, it remains unclear why such a significant cache of arms and explosives was stored there.

In response, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari called for the Trinamool Congress to be declared a “terrorist organization” and demanded the arrest of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Adhikari claimed that all the weapons recovered were of foreign origin and suggested their potential use in anti-national activities, urging stringent action against the Trinamool.

He held Mamata Banerjee “fully responsible” for the Sandeshkhali incident and called for her immediate arrest, intensifying the political tensions in West Bengal ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
