Imphal, Jan 19: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a prominent socio-cultural organization in Manipur, has called for national attention to Security Adviser Kuldiep Singh’s remarks concerning the growing involvement of Kuki militants across the state.

Responding to the Security Adviser’s comments, COCOMI emphasized the need for the national media to focus on this specific aspect of Kuldiep Singh’s statement.

The organization urged media coverage to shed light on Kuldeep’s critical statements, particularly regarding the potential engagement of foreign mercenaries and Kuki Militants, who are currently in suspension of operations with the Government of India.

Recognizing these factors, especially eight months post-violence, is crucial for understanding the root causes of Manipur’s ongoing crisis and finding lasting resolutions, according to COCOMI.

In a press briefing on January 18 at the CM Secretariat, Manipur’s Security Adviser, Kuldiep Singh, expressed serious concerns about the increasingly active role of Kuki militants targeting innocent civilians and security forces across the state.

Singh disclosed a recent incident in the Bishnupur area where Kuki militants attacked three workers near Naga village, leaving them seriously injured.

Despite the heightened activities, security forces are on high alert, and efforts are underway to tackle the situation.

Kuldiep Singh’s comments followed a tragic incident on January 18, where five civilians were killed by unknown armed miscreants in two separate incidents in Manipur.

According to sources, four farmers, including a father and son, were shot dead by armed miscreants in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou under Bishnupur district.

The attackers allegedly traveled over 2 km to a water supply plant located in the middle of paddy fields to carry out the killings. In another incident, one village volunteer lost his life during a gunfight at Kangchup in Kangpokpi district.

During the press conference, Singh stated that security forces are actively engaged in combing operations to address the heightened activities in and around the hills and Moreh.

The government is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of civilians and security personnel, with the hope of bringing the situation under control in the next few days.
