New Delhi, Jan 04: A thick blanket of fog shrouded several northern regions, including Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura, creating a cold wave in North India, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The dense fog led to delays in flight operations at Delhi airport due to low visibility.

As of 5:30 AM, visibility ranged between 25 to 500 meters in various parts of the country. Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh reported visibility at 25 meters, while Lucknow and Prayagraj recorded 25 and 50 meters, respectively.

In Delhi, Safdarjung reported 500 meters, and Palam recorded 700 meters of visibility. Other affected areas included Bikaner and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, Gaya and Purnea in Bihar, and Moradabad, where dense fog persisted amid coldwave conditions.

The cold wave has gripped most parts of the country for several days, prompting authorities in Noida and Greater Noida to order the closure of schools for students up to Class 8 until January 6 due to severe cold weather.

Looking ahead, the weather department anticipates no significant change in minimum temperatures over the next two days in East India, followed by a subsequent rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, in Central India, minimum temperatures are expected to increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the next three days, with no significant change thereafter.
