Imphal, Jan 04: In commemoration of eight months of the ongoing crisis in Manipur, a candlelight vigil was held in front of the Kangla Gate to honor those who lost their lives during the unrest.

The event was organized by FAMBEI, a representative body of the Meitei community.

Addressing the media during the ceremony, Ashem Nirmala, a member of FAMBEI, expressed deep concern about the lack of interest shown by the Government of India in resolving the crisis.

She criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the matter, highlighting that the violence has persisted for eight months.

Nirmala asserted that Modi’s focus seems to be solely on the geographical location and soil of Manipur, rather than the well-being of its people.

She stated that the discontent among the people towards the government is a consequence of the negligence of both the state and central governments.

Additionally, Nirmala pointed out the absence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the state as an indication of the central government’s disinterest in the Manipur crisis.

Despite visiting the state once, Shah did not return, further emphasizing the perceived lack of concern.

Nirmala emphasized that the people of Manipur are eager to restore peace in the state, calling for the removal of Kuldeip Singh as the chairman of the Unified Command.

Instead, she demanded that the Chief Minister of Manipur take up the role, considering Singh unfit for the position.
