Gangtok, March 13: The Sikkim Democratic Front party announced the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Sikkim, despite prior assurances from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Despite Sikkim’s protection under Article 371 F, the state government’s failure to pass a resolution has led to the implementation of the CAA, raising concerns about potential immigration increases.

Social and Political Activist Passang Sherpa, who recently joined the BJP, highlighted the discrepancy between the assurances made by Sikkim’s Union Home Minister and the CAA’s implementation.

Article 371F, designed to protect Sikkim’s unique status, grants special provisions to the state, ensuring its autonomy and preserving its cultural heritage since its merger with India in 1975.
