Gangtok, April 19: In a significant stride towards inclusive democracy, Gangtok’s Arithang constituency witnesses a pioneering initiative in the Sikkim Assembly Election.
At Chintan Bhawan, a polling booth solely managed by differently-abled (PwD) polling officers under the leadership of Presiding Officer Mr. Indra Chettri has been established.
With a team of 05 PwD Polling Officers, this endeavor aims to ensure equal participation and accessibility for voters with disabilities.
Situated on the ground floor of Chintan Bhawan, the polling booth serves part 9 of the 26 Arithang Constituency (26/9).

All Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs) have been meticulously provided, including well-maintained infrastructure, furniture, separate toilets, drinking water facilities, shades, ramps, and wheelchairs for voters with disabilities.
This PwD-managed polling booth sets a precedent for inclusivity and accessibility, not just in Gangtok but across all of Sikkim’s constituencies.
These model polling stations, equipped with AMFs, symbolize a concerted effort to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the electoral process.
By entrusting the management of polling booths to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities, the Election Commission reaffirms its commitment to upholding the principles of free and fair elections.
