Guwahati: New SOP for salons, spas bans massages from opposite sexes

Guwahati, Nov 16: A New Standard of Procedures has been published by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation for salons, spas, and beauty salons in the district. A provision requiring the main door to be transparent and no massage from the opposite sex is included in the new guidelines.

Several complaints have been received from citizens alleging that certain spas and parlours are inflicting malpractices that are detrimental to civic society, according to the order signed by Devashish Sharma, commissioner of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. Observing public morality and observing the laws which govern a civic society is the Core Duty of the Corporation.

As per the new rules in Guwahati, salons, spas, and parlours will not be permitted to have separate rooms within the premises. The main doors of these establishments will be transparent. Trade Licences are granted by the Corporation to unisex parlours, spas, beauty parlours, and hair-cutting salons with some conditions, according to the GMC order.

In addition, Siddharth Goswami, the joint commissioner of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, claimed that they have introduced new standards for spas, salons, and beauty salons considering a lot of points and therefore the opposite gender is no longer allowed to practice therapy or massage.

A number of complaints have been received regarding malpractices in some establishments, according to Siddharth Goswami, who formulated the new rules.
