Warm Welcome and Party Address

Upon his return, Singh was warmly welcomed by BJP workers at Thambal Sanglen in Imphal. Addressing party workers, he highlighted that the peace agreement was not a sudden development but the result of three to four years of efforts.

Singh also addressed criticisms against the BJP, defending the government’s actions related to issues such as identifying illegal immigrants, combating drug abuse, and preventing deforestation.

Singh launched a scathing attack on those blaming the BJP for the state’s strife, questioning the government’s initiatives. He defended campaigns against illegal immigration, the war on drugs, and efforts to curb deforestation. Asserting the BJP’s commitment to a united Manipur, Singh made it clear that neither he nor the party is at fault.

Historic UNLF Peace Agreement

The United National Liberation Front (UNLF), the oldest valley-based armed group in Manipur, signed a historic peace agreement in New Delhi, ending a six-decade-long armed movement. The agreement aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for inclusive development in Northeast India. The UNLF’s renouncement of violence and commitment to joining the mainstream marks a significant milestone, offering hope for other valley-based armed groups to engage in the peace process.

Ongoing Peace Efforts in Manipur

CM Biren Singh announced that his government is close to signing a peace accord with another significant underground militant group in Manipur. Talks have been underway, and the peace process aligns with the Centre’s efforts to bring stability to the region. The recent extension of the ban on certain militant outfits indicates the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the conflict-ridden state.
