Guwahati, May 04: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a strong rebuke to Badruddin Ajmal, leader of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), regarding the establishment of government madrasas in the state.
This response follows Ajmal’s announcement on April 24, expressing his party’s intention to establish 700 government madrasas to compensate for the closure of around 750 madrasas in Assam.
These closures were initiated by the BJP-led Assam government in 2023, which decided to convert all state-run madrasas into regular schools.
Sarma’s administration has been actively involved in the closure of about 1,000 private madrasas, engaging in dialogues with Muslim organizations to facilitate this transition.
