Manipur operations

Imphal, Oct 29: A significant breakthrough occurred during ongoing search operations in Manipur, conducted by the state police and security forces in the vulnerable areas of Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal, and Imphal-West districts. A substantial cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, and war-like materials was discovered.

The operations led to the recovery of two firearms, including an SMG Carbine with a magazine and a locally made 9mm pistol. In addition to the arms, seven rounds of ammunition and ten explosive devices were also found in the vicinity of Phougakchao Ikhai Mamang Leikai and Kolbung Village, within the jurisdiction of Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station in Bishnupur district.

In a separate incident, security forces in Manipur apprehended five active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), a Maoist militant organization, on charges of extortion and illegal possession of arms. This development took place after officials conducted an extensive search operation covering areas in Kakching, Bishnupur, Imphal East, and Imphal West districts.

During the operation, these individuals, belonging to the KCP’s military task force, were arrested. The authorities recovered a firearm along with 48 rounds of live ammunition, three 7.62mm ammunition charger clips, a pistol holster, three sets of combat attire with scarves, four pairs of jungle boots, and two belts.

The discovery of such a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition highlights the ongoing efforts of the Manipur state police and security forces to maintain peace and security in the region. These findings underscore the importance of these operations in curbing illegal activities and enhancing public safety in the state.
