Weather Update, June 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for various parts of the country as the monsoon season has arrived and spread across most of India.
The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh from June 29 to July 1. Similarly, Sikkim is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 27 to July 2.
According to IMD scientists, the monsoon has made significant progress over the past 4-5 days. They have also warned of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand over the next five days. Uttarakhand, in particular, is likely to witness torrential rain until July 5. As a result, a yellow alert has been issued for moderate to heavy rains in Dehradun and the hilly areas of Uttarakhand in the coming days.
In response to the predictions, the Uttarakhand police have taken proactive measures to ensure public safety. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed along the Amarnath Yatra route and in sensitive disaster-prone areas. This preemptive action aims to mitigate the risks associated with heavy rainfall and minimize potential damages.

The IMD has also issued an orange alert for eight districts in Uttarakhand, indicating the need for heightened preparedness and vigilance.
