Weather Update, June 10: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts extremely heavy rainfall across northeastern states like Assam, Meghalaya, and Sikkim, alongside Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and South Interior Karnataka.

Coastal Karnataka and districts in Madhya Maharashtra are also on alert for significant showers.

IMD alerts of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on June 10, posing potential disruptions and hazards.

Additionally, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and north interior Karnataka may experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds. Mumbai grapples with continuous rainfall, causing widespread waterlogging due to the early onset of the southwest monsoon.

Conversely, parts of northern India, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar, face heatwave-like conditions, while Odisha expects hot and humid weather.

Severe heatwave conditions prevailed on June 9 in Madhya Pradesh districts like Tikamgarh, Gwalior, and Khajuraho, with temperatures surpassing 43 degrees Celsius.

As the monsoon progresses, Mumbai witnesses thunderstorms and rainfall, prompting waterlogging in various areas.

IMD advises residents and authorities in affected northeastern states and other regions to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions amidst the changing weather patterns.
