Arunachal, Nov 10: Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Earth Sciences and Atomic Energy and Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, inaugurated a new Biotechnology Center in a remote region of Arunachal Pradesh.
He explained that the Biotechnology Center for Bio-resources and Sustainable Development is intended to conserve and sustainably utilize the local bio-resources in the state with the support of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology.
The minister pointed out that the Department of Biotechnology has played a critical role in building the region’s capacity for conducting biotechnology research on issues relevant to the region. This has included implementing programmes aimed at improving social wellbeing.
In addition, he said that some ICAR and CSIR institutions have established academic relationships with the Centre for Bioresources and Sustainable Development. This will facilitate the efficient implementation of these programs, which will create job opportunities for young entrepreneurs in Arunachal Pradesh.
Over 50 villages in Arunachal Pradesh will benefit from these programmes in the next two years, covering the implementation of these programmes in four districts.

Centre for Bioresources and Sustainable Development (CBSD) was established by the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and Department of Biotechnology to increase scientific knowledge of Arunachal Pradesh.
The project was initially sanctioned for Rs 54.23 crore on March 27, 2018, for three years. As of September 26, 2023, the project will continue. The Arunachal Pradesh received a DBT-funded Skill Vigyan Program in Biotechnology during the event as well.
Several kinds of training programs are being conducted with this program including Students Training Programmes (STP), Technician Training Programmes (TTP), Faculty Training Programmes (FTP), and Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP).
The occasion was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Tapir Gao, Deputy Chief Minister for Science and Technology Bamang Mangha, among others.
