1. Daljit Singh Chaudhary, a 1990 batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the National Security Guard (NSG) by the Centre.
2. Chaudhary, who presently serves as the DG of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), will now hold dual responsibilities, leading both the SSB and the NSG.
3. His appointment underscores the government’s trust in his capabilities to oversee critical security operations.


New Delhi, Feb 28: The Centre has appointed Daljit Singh Chaudhary, a 1990 batch IPS officer, as the new Director General (DG) of the National Security Guard (NSG).

Currently serving as the DG of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Chaudhary has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of leading the NSG.

The NSG serves as a federal counter-deployment force specializing in counter-terrorism and anti-hijacking operations. Trained to handle specific situations, it is mobilized only under exceptional circumstances as determined by the government.

The NSG played a pivotal role during the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.

In an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it was stated, “The Competent Authority has approved the assignment of the additional charge of the post of Director General, National Security Guard (NSG) to Daljit Singh Chaudhary, IPS (UP:90), Director General, SSB, upon the superannuation of M A Ganapathy, IPS (UK:86), Director General, NSG, on February 29.”

Chaudhary’s appointment is effective for three months or until the appointment and joining of a regular incumbent, or until further orders, whichever occurs earlier.
