Jorhat, March 02: The Assam cabinet convened in Guwahati for its weekly meeting, addressing critical infrastructure development, investments, and administrative matters.

Health Minister Keshab Mahanta highlighted key decisions, including the acknowledgement of the substantial investment of Rs 27,000 crore by the Prime Minister and the Union Cabinet for establishing a semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) unit in Morigaon.

Led by the Tata Group, the semiconductor plant on the former Jagiroad paper mill site is anticipated to create 15,000 direct job opportunities in Assam.

Additionally, four major companies have expressed interest in investing Rs 1612 crores in the state, potentially generating 4,000 more jobs.

The cabinet also approved the construction of a flyover at Baruah Chariali in Jorhat, connecting it directly to Bhogdoi Bridge, with an estimated cost of Rs 164 crores.

To support rural development, the cabinet sanctioned a loan of Rs 4,546 crores and 74 lakhs from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

Furthermore, the cabinet authorized ADCs, COs, and BDOs to continue their panchayat-level duties until the Panchayat elections are held after the Lok Sabha elections, as confirmed by Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
