Aizawl, Dec 07: Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma is set to take the oath as the new Chief Minister of Mizoram on December 8, according to an announcement from a Raj Bhavan official. The swearing-in ceremony will also include other members of his council of ministers and is scheduled to take place at 11 am in a function at the Raj Bhavan.

Earlier on the same day, Lalduhoma visited Governor Hari Babu Khambampati at the Raj Bhavan, formally staking his claim to form the government. Following the meeting, the governor extended an invitation to Lalduhoma to proceed with the government formation process. The ZPM secured a significant victory in the Mizoram Assembly elections, winning 27 out of the 40 seats in the polls held on November 7. This triumph led to the party’s decisive victory over the Mizo National Front (MNF), headed by Zoramthanga.

Preparations for the government formation are underway, with the ZPM advisory body scheduled to convene on Thursday to deliberate on crucial matters related to the new government’s structure. Eddy Zosangliana Colney, the general secretary of the ZPM media cell, confirmed that the meeting would address decisions regarding the council of ministers and other pertinent issues.

Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer who previously served as the security in-charge for former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, emerged as the unanimous choice for the leader of the Zoram People’s Movement legislature party. This decision was reached during a meeting of the party’s newly elected legislators held on Tuesday evening.

Additionally, K Sapdanga, the party’s working president, was elected as the deputy leader during this session. As Mizoram prepares for a new era under the leadership of Lalduhoma and the ZPM, the upcoming swearing-in ceremony symbolizes a significant turning point in the state’s political landscape.
