Kolkata, Dec 30: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently visited a state-run hospital for a check-up on injuries to her left knee and right shoulder, sustained earlier this year during a helicopter landing.

The Woodburn Block of SSKM Hospital was the venue for routine tests and consultations with doctors to address injury issues.

Speaking to reporters upon leaving, Banerjee clarified that the injuries were a result of an emergency landing at the IAF helipad in Sevoke near Siliguri. She reassured me that the injuries were not serious and were fully treated during her visit to the hospital.

When asked about a potential minor surgery on her right shoulder, she dismissed concerns and emphasized that the medical intervention was successful.

Banerjee emphasized that her visit was primarily for a check-up, stating, “I just came here for a check-up. The doctors then treated me.” She highlighted her return to normalcy, mentioning, “In fact, I have been walking normally now… I walk around 20,000 steps daily.”

During her over three-hour stay at the hospital, Banerjee interacted with the doctors and discussed some of the issues they faced. She urged not to read too much into her hospital visit and, before leaving, extended New Year greetings to the people of the state. Banerjee also recited a few lines of a Tagore poem, praying for amity, the victory of humanity, and peace.

It’s worth noting that this visit follows a previous injury to her left knee in September during a 12-day tour of Spain and Dubai.
