Imphal, Feb 29: In a press conference held at the Police Headquarters today, IGP (Operation) Kabib K addressed the media regarding the recent attacks on police officers in Manipur.

He stated that on February 27, a group of armed miscreants targeted additional SP Moirangthem and Inspector P Achouba in Imphal West.

The attackers also vandalized the house and properties of a former police officer.

The incident occurred following the interception of snatched vehicles and the apprehension of individuals involved in vehicle snatching.

IGP Kabib K expressed deep concern over the attack on police officers while they were performing their lawful duties, terming it unfortunate and condemnable.

Providing details of the incident, he mentioned that on February 27, information was received regarding the theft or snatching of two ambassador cars from a government oil depot in North AOC.

Acting on this information, Moirangthem Amit Singh, P Achouba, and other teams conducted a search operation and intercepted the stolen vehicles.

One individual involved in the crime was apprehended, and an FIR case was registered in connection with the incident.

IGP Kabib K revealed that the targeted attack on the officers and the vandalism of Moirangthem Amit’s house and properties occurred in retaliation to their actions.

The additional SP was reportedly abducted, beaten, and later released after intervention by the department.

He expressed concern over various narratives circulating on social media platforms, leading to the character assassination of the officers and the police department as a whole.

Assuring the public of the police department’s commitment to maintaining law and order, IGP Kabib K urged for cooperation from the general public.

He emphasized that the Manipur Police is working diligently to ensure the safety and security of the state.

The targeted attacks on Manipur Police officers highlight the need for enhanced security measures, possibly involving the deployment of army and central forces.

However, such measures could potentially cause distress among the public.

The efforts of the state police in maintaining law and order should be recognized and supported by all stakeholders.
