Imphal, Feb 29: The Manipur Police Department has strongly condemned the violent attack carried out by the Arambai Tengol group on an Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops), Imphal West, and other officers on the evening of February 27, 2024.
During the attack, the assailants not only targeted Additional SP Moirangthem Amit Singh but also threatened his family, vandalized houses and properties, and even abducted and assaulted the Additional SP before releasing him following timely intervention by the department.
In a press release, the Manipur Police clarified that misinformation about the incident was being circulated on various platforms, including social media, tarnishing the reputation of the officers and the police department.
The incident occurred after the theft of two Ambassador cars from the Government Oil Depot at North AOC, following which officials intercepted the stolen vehicles and apprehended a suspect.
The press release emphasized the Manipur Police Department’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the state and urged the public to cooperate and refrain from spreading rumors and fake news.
It also highlighted the involvement of the Arambai Tengol group in various anti-social activities, including assaults on civilians and vehicle snatching, as well as extortion from the public and businessmen.

The police department cautioned the public to be vigilant against fake messages and social media posts aimed at creating disharmony in the state.
It reassured the public that the Manipur Police is a neutral force dedicated to safeguarding lives and properties without bias towards any community.
Any attempts to target officers or units via social media will be dealt with strictly.
The press release mentioned that an extensive area domination drive was conducted on February 28, 2024, by a combined force led by the SPs of various districts in the valley districts, comprising MR/IRB/CDOs/Civil Police.
Considering the targeted attacks on the Manipur Police, there is a likelihood of increased deployment of the Army and other Central forces. Combing operations will continue, and those responsible for criminal activities will face strict action.
