Agartala, Aug 22: A devastating landslide in Gardang, under the Santirbazar sub-division of Tripura’s South District, claimed the lives of seven people, including a 3-year-old child, after their house was buried under debris.
The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall in Ashwini Tripura village, struck early this morning and led to the tragic deaths of two families. Rescue teams have so far recovered six bodies, with efforts ongoing to retrieve the final victim.
The deceased have been identified as Umacharan Tripura (25), Mandira Tripura (23), Prasenjit Tripura (21), Ajay Tripura (16), Rakesh Tripura (18), Jyotika Tripura (21), and Kumtuisa Tripura (3).
Residents and authorities are working together in the recovery efforts, while injured family members are receiving medical treatment.

An injured survivor shared that the landslide occurred suddenly late last night, burying the house.
“A total of seven persons died, including three of my sons, my daughter-in-law, my granddaughter, my younger brother, and his wife,” he recounted.
Since August 19, heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding across Tripura, leading to around 2,000 landslides.
The state has already recorded 10 deaths as the floods continue to wreak havoc.
