Aizawl, Aug 22: In response to continuous heavy rainfall in Mizoram’s Aizawl district, leading to severe flooding, mudslides, landslides, and rockfalls, local authorities have ordered the closure of all schools as a precautionary measure.
This decision was made after thorough consultations and analysis of weather data from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The Competent Authority has declared August 22, 2024 (Thursday), a holiday for all schools within Aizawl District.

The directive was issued under Section 30(v) in conjunction with Section 2(d) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, as outlined in Circular No.F.20016/12/2024-DMR dated July 30, 2024.
Authorities have also warned that failure to comply with the closure order will result in legal action under Section 51(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
