Shillong, Oct 08: The death toll in Meghalaya’s flood-hit Garo Hills has risen to 17, following the tragic loss of two children, Silarin Marak (8) and Tangme R Marak (3), from Bate Apal-Bangsi Apal village in North Garo Hills.

The children accidentally fell into a water-filled pit near their home while playing.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will visit the flood-affected areas in Dalu, Atisia Songmong, and surrounding regions on October 8.

He will meet the families of the deceased and inspect relief camps.

Additionally, he will hold a review meeting with the administration of West and South Garo Hills to assess the damage.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) remains active in the Garo Hills, coordinating relief efforts as the region continues to experience heavy rainfall since October 4, leading to flash floods and landslides.
