The Mizoram assembly elections, held on November 7, saw a high voter turnout, with more than 80% of the state’s 8.57 lakh voters exercising their franchise. The Election Commission of India (ECI) had postponed the vote counting to December 4, respecting the special significance of Sunday for the Christian-majority population in the state.

In the previous assembly elections in 2018, the MNF had emerged victorious with 26 seats, displacing the Congress from power. The ZPM had secured eight seats, while the Congress lagged behind with only five seats, a notable decline from the 34 seats it had won in 2013. The recent electoral results underscore a significant political shift in Mizoram, signaling the ascent of ZPM as the dominant political force in the state.
