Compared to the previous year, the tourist influx saw a slight decline, with over 2.22 lakh visitors recorded in 2022-23.

The Covid-19 pandemic significantly impacted tourism, with only 20,564 tourists in 2020-21 and 1.32 lakh in 2021-22.

Mizoram’s tourism sector has been guided by a ‘responsible’ tourism policy since August 2020, aiming for sustainable development and community empowerment.

The policy emphasizes leveraging tourism for local development, poverty eradication, and environmental conservation.

Previously, foreigners required a Protected Area Permit (PAP) from the Union Home Ministry to visit Mizoram. However, PAP has been suspended for all foreigners except those from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and China.

While PAP is no longer mandatory, foreign tourists must register at the Foreigner Registration Office in Aizawl within 24 hours of arrival.
