Modi North-East

Guwahati, June 04: Narendra Modi is the only Prime Minister of India who has traveled more than 50 times to the North-East ever in the history of the country.

Narendra Modi is an elected or a Lok Sabha MP from Varanasi and has traveled across the length and breadth of the country during his eight years as Prime Minister.

However, Modi is the first and the only Prime Minister to travel to all North Eastern States multiple times, which has not been done by many Prime Ministers of Independent India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is known to have coined the term ‘AshtaLakshmi’ a Sanskrit word used for eight forms of Lakshmi or the eight states of the NorthEast.

North-east has always been Congress Bastian until BJP registered its first win in the state of Assam in assembly elections in 2016.

This was also during the regime of Narendra Modi at the Centre, thereby making and registering the first win in the seven states of the region. It was after this that a North East Democratic Alliance was formed NEDA known to be a common platform for all BJP-led state governments of the region.

This was meant to keep them united and keep addressing the region’s issues.

An interesting fact is that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who was a Rajya Sabha MP from the state of Assam from 2004 to 2014 during his tenure as the Prime Minister of the country too hasn’t traveled more than a dozen times to the entire region excluding his nominations or collecting of certificates in the Assam State Legislative Assembly around Rajya Sabha Elections.

Narendra Modi is the current and 14th Prime Minister of India who assumed office on 26th May 2014. Jawaharlal Nehru is the first and the longest-serving Prime Minister of India while Indira Gandhi is the first and only female Prime Minister of India.
