Bhubaneswar, Feb 02: In a bid to enhance transparency in the candidate selection process, Congress members aspiring to contest Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Odisha must now submit their applications online, according to senior party leader Ajoy Kumar.

The decision aims to streamline the selection process and was announced to the press by Kumar.

Applicants seeking to run as Congress candidates can now apply online, and a dedicated survey team will be tasked with scrutinizing the backgrounds of these individuals.

The survey team’s findings will then be sent to the state election committee, which will subsequently forward the comprehensive report to the screening committee after thorough scrutiny.

The screening committee will nominate deserving candidates based on the survey team’s recommendations.

Ajoy Kumar emphasized that the entire candidate selection process will be conducted with utmost transparency, and there are no specific criteria for application. This move is part of the party’s commitment to fostering a fair and open process for selecting candidates for elections.

State Congress president Sarat Pattanayak added, “If a person demonstrates the ability to win, he or she will be granted a ticket, irrespective of whether any family member is also a candidate.”

This approach reflects a pragmatic stance, focusing on the candidate’s electoral potential rather than familial associations.

It is noteworthy that Lok Sabha elections and assembly polls are typically conducted simultaneously in the state of Odisha.

The introduction of an online application system is expected to streamline the candidate selection process, making it more accessible and efficient.

This move aligns with the broader trend of utilizing digital platforms to enhance democratic processes and promote transparency within political parties.
