Chennai, Feb 02: Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay has officially stepped into politics by announcing the formation of his political party, ‘Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.’
The actor expressed his commitment to bringing about “fundamental political change” characterized by transparent, caste-free, and corruption-free administration.
The announcement followed the approval of the formation of the political party by Vijay’s fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, in a meeting held in Chennai last week.
In a statement, the actor conveyed his intention to register the party with the Election Commission and participate in the upcoming 2026 assembly elections to bring about the desired political transformation.
Vijay emphasized that politics is not merely a career choice for him but a sacred responsibility for the people.
He stated, “I have been preparing myself for it for a long time. Politics is not a hobby for me. That is my deepest desire. I want to fully involve myself in it.”
The statement further elaborated on the current political climate, citing administrative malpractices, corrupt political culture, and divisive tactics based on caste and religion.

However, Vijay clarified that the party won’t be participating in the 2024 general elections and will not extend support to any other party in the upcoming elections.
