In a tweet, PM Modi praised the team’s excellent skill and spirit throughout the tournament, highlighting their motivating commitment. “Spoke to the Indian team and congratulated them on their exemplary success at the T20 World Cup. They have shown excellent skill and spirit throughout the tournament. Each player’s commitment is very motivating,” he tweeted.

During the conversation, PM Modi commended Rohit Sharma for his splendid captaincy and T20I career. He mentioned Virat Kohli for his valuable 76 runs and immense contributions to Indian cricket.

The Prime Minister also thanked Rahul Dravid, who stepped down as head coach following India’s win, for his significant contributions.

On Saturday, PM Modi released a video congratulating the ‘Men in Blue’ for their victory over South Africa in the see-saw final at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

“CHAMPIONS! Our team brings the T20 World Cup home in STYLE! We are proud of the Indian cricket team. This match was HISTORIC,” he tweeted, along with a congratulatory video message for the team.

This was India’s second T20 World Cup win in 17 years, following their maiden victory in 2007, and their first major ICC title in 11 years since the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Ladakh, June 29: Five Army soldiers are feared drowned after their T-72 tank was swept away by flash floods near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh’s Nyoma-Chushul area early Saturday morning.

The incident took place around 1 am near Mandir Morh, approximately 148 kilometers from the region’s headquarters, during a military exercise.

Officials reported that the tank, carrying five soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four Jawans, sank while crossing the river amidst the sudden floods.

“So far, one person has been located, and efforts are underway to find the remaining soldiers,” defense officials stated.

In a tragic incident last year, nine soldiers, including a JCO, lost their lives when an army truck veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Kiari in Leh district.

Jammu, June 29: The annual Amarnath Yatra began on Saturday with more than 4,600 pilgrims embarking on the journey to the holy cave from the base camp in the Kashmir valley.

Led by 231 vehicles, the yatra convoy was ceremonially started from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Thursday by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Amid chants of “Bum Bum Bhole” and “Har Har Mahadev,” Sinha wished the pilgrims a safe and successful journey. Upon reaching the valley on Friday evening, the pilgrims were warmly received with garlands and cheers in districts like Kulgam, Anantnag, Srinagar, and Bandipora.

Local Muslims joined officials from the police, civil society members, trade representatives, fruit growers, and market associations in welcoming the yatris, emphasizing communal harmony and support for the pilgrimage.

“We welcome all of them. There are proper arrangements in place for them,” said Kulgam Deputy Commissioner (DC) Athar Aamir Khan.

The pilgrims entered the valley through the Navyug tunnel in the Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. From there, the 52-day pilgrimage will proceed on two tracks:

the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal, both leading to the holy cave shrine situated at an altitude of 3,880 meters.

Stringent security measures are in place to ensure the safety of the over 3.5 lakh registered pilgrims this year, with a three-tier security plan encompassing area dominance, extensive route deployment, and checkpoints.

Traffic restrictions will be enforced on various routes from now until August 19, with daily advisories issued to minimize inconvenience.

To cater to the pilgrims, more than 125 community kitchens (langars) have been established along the pilgrimage routes, operated by over 6,000 volunteers who will provide food and refreshments throughout the journey.

The Amarnath Yatra holds significant cultural and religious importance, drawing devotees from diverse backgrounds.

According to Hindu mythology, the Amarnath cave is where Lord Shiva revealed the secrets of life and eternity to Goddess Parvati, with the naturally formed ice lingam inside the cave regarded as a symbol of Shiva himself.

Guwahati, June 29: In a shocking development, Barpeta Road police have apprehended nine individuals involved in a massive marksheet scam at Gauhati University.

Authorities revealed that marks were illicitly increased on student marksheets through monetary transactions.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the issue in Barpeta on Thursday, highlighting the gravity of the situation. He confirmed that the Assam Police and the CID are jointly investigating the case, leading to the apprehension of eight accused individuals so far.

The scam came to light when authorities at Ganeshlal Choudhury College (GLC College) in Barpeta Road detected discrepancies in the marks of Azizul Haque, a sixth-year undergraduate student.

A case was promptly registered at the Barpeta Road police station, although initial investigations by the district police were reportedly inadequate, resulting in Haque’s release from custody.

Local media played a crucial role by informing the Chief Minister about the mishandling of the investigation. Consequently, Dr. Sarma directed a thorough probe into the matter, bringing to light the involvement of several university and college staff in the fraudulent activities.

Among those arrested are Krishnan Krishnamurthy from Samastipur, Bihar, who was working at Gauhati University, and Shivtosh Mahto, a junior computer assistant at Dhubri Law College. The arrests were made through coordinated raids by Barpeta and Dhubri police.

The nine accused include:

  • The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicts Guwahati will experience cloudy skies with rain and thundershowers.
  • The IMD also forecasts very heavy rain over Meghalaya on June 29 and the following days.

Imphal, June 28: A massive rally took place in Manipur today, with participants calling for preserving the state’s territorial integrity amidst the ongoing crisis.

Demonstrators demanded an end to perceived attempts to exterminate indigenous communities in Manipur, the cessation of the divide-and-rule policy, the eradication of narco-terrorism, and the expulsion of narcotics-related infiltrators from outside the country.

They also called for the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with narco-terrorists and the expedited implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The protesters opposed disarming or recovering arms before the end of violent conflicts and demanded a halt to combing operations until armed confrontations with narco-terrorists ceased.

Organized by the Coordinating Committee of Manipur Integrity, thousands of participants from diverse backgrounds marched from Imphal’s THAU Ground to Khuman Lampak under the banner “Manipur Kanba Khongchate” (to protect and safeguard Manipur).

Chants of “Long Live Manipur,” “Don’t Disintegrate Manipur,” and “Manipur Mother Outshine All” echoed through the streets as demonstrators urged for an immediate resolution to the crisis without compromising the state’s territorial integrity.

Among the protesters were two Meitei MLAs, Sapam Nishikanta and Thangjam Arun, who joined the march to show their support.

New Delhi, June 28: A tragic incident unfolded this morning as a section of the roof at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed onto cars amidst heavy rainfall, resulting in one fatality and six injuries.

Operations at Terminal 1, dedicated to domestic flights, have been temporarily halted, announced the civil aviation ministry.

“Early morning heavy rain led to the collapse of Terminal 1’s canopy at Delhi Airport, necessitating the closure of flights until further notice. Alternative arrangements are being organized for smooth flight operations,” the ministry stated on social media platform X.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu visited Terminal 1 to assess the damage and announced the temporary relocation of operations to Terminals 2 and 3.

Describing the incident as “very serious,” the minister assured a comprehensive structural inspection of the airport and pledged a thorough investigation into the technical causes.

The ministry also announced compensation of ₹20 lakh for the deceased victim’s family and ₹3 lakh each for the injured.

Terminal 1 serves domestic flights operated by IndiGo and SpiceJet, handling approximately 1,400 flights daily across Delhi Airport’s three terminals.

Officials reported that the collapse damaged parked cars in the terminal’s pick-up and drop-off area, prompting an immediate response from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) around 5:30 am.

Rescue operations included extracting a man trapped under debris from a vehicle struck by a falling iron beam.

IndiGo and SpiceJet were compelled to cancel flights due to structural damage at Terminal 1, affecting passenger movement and leading to operational disruptions across their networks. Both airlines advised passengers to monitor flight statuses closely and expect potential itinerary changes.

Today’s heavy rainfall in Delhi, continuing from the previous day, provided relief from the heat but caused waterlogging in several parts of the city, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
