Mamata Banerjee considers herself to be the landlord of Bengal: Dilip Ghosh

West Bengal, Dec 29: BJP Bengal President and MP Dilip Ghosh attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by saying that she thinks that she is a landlord of the entire West Bengal.

“Mamata Banerjee considers herself to be the landlord of entire West Bengal. She gets to decide who to give the plot to and whom to retract the plot from. The entire Harish Chatterjee Road has been taken over. Are the plots of these places are her possession?” Dilip Ghosh said.

Ghosh’s comment comes after a day when West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the Public Works Department (PWD) will take back control of a road near the Visva Bharati University’s campus. The 2.9 km long road connects two campuses of the university — Santiniketan and Sriniketan — and the university authorities were given possession of it in 2017.

“A globally acclaimed university with which the pride of Bengalis is attached is being handled childishly. She is not being able to stop the mafias rather is joining hands with them. I do not know how they are getting respect from this. I f you speak about this they are coming up with a new issue,” Ghosh added.

Around 3,000 locals reside in the area near the road which also runs past the houses of Nobel laureate Amartya Sen and painter Nandalal Bose.

“They are neither being able to run the administration nor the party. The party and the administration are collapsing. They are disoriented and directionless and thus are trying to perplex people by creating these political issues. I think the educational institutions should be kept outside the realms of politics,” Dilip further added.

Mamata Banerjee’s decision to hand it back to the PWD today comes amid her confrontation with university Vice-Chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty over an event and her support for Amartya Sen over reports that he is on the Visva Bharati University’s list of illegal plot holders.

The chief minister is scheduled to hold a roadshow down the main street of Bolpur tomorrow as part of her election outreach. Her roadshow comes around a week after BJP leader Amit Shah visited Bolpur and the university campus.

West Bengal, Dec 29: BJP Bengal president and MP Dilip Ghosh attack the West Bengal ruling government over the reshuffle of IPS officers in the Bengal cadre following an attack on J P Nadda’s convoy on Monday.

“There is a war going on between the central and the state government. When the central government has called for a deputation, they have to go, be it today or tomorrow, they have to go. If the government thinks that they can transfer them or promote them, this won’t happen. As per administrative laws, the government has to release them,” said Dilip Ghosh.

IPS officers Dr. Bholanath Pandey, SP, Diamond Harbour district has been posted as Superintendent of Police, Home Guard by the West Bengal government. Avijit Banerjee, who was the Superintendent of Police of the Barasat Police district, has been posted as SP Diamond Harbour police headquarters.

Three siblings kept locked in a room for 10 years in Gujarat

Gujarat, Dec 29: Three siblings were rescued nearly after a decade from a dark room where they had been locked up in Rajkot of Gujarat. The three siblings are aged between 30 to 42 years and are well-educated with university degrees. It is said that they are suffering from mental illness.

According to their father, the two brothers and the sister locked themselves up after their mother’s death. But others claimed that their father was superstitious and hid his kin away to protect them from black magic.

All three siblings were discovered after the NGO ‘Saathi Seva Group’ which works for the homeless was tipped off about their condition.

The members of the NGO visited the house in Rajkot’s posh Kishanpara area and broke open the door, they found the room had no access to sunlight, and it was reeking of human faces with stale food and newspapers scattered around.

The siblings are identified as – Amrish Mehta (42), Meghna Mehta (39) and Bhavesh Mehta (30) all found sleeping on the floor. All of them found in a severely malnourished condition with matted hair and long beards.

Their father Naveenbhai Mehta, arrived at his house after the NGO officials revealed that his children have been in such condition since the death of their mother nearly 10 years ago.

The father said that his eldest son Amrish was a practicing lawyer with BA, LLB degrees, while the daughter Meghna (39) is an MA in Psychology. His youngest son Bhavesh has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and was a promising cricket player.

Naveenbhai Mehta said that all three of his children had stopped going out after their mother started keeping ill in 1986. Six years later after she died, they completely shut off from the world and locked themselves in a room.

He said that he used to leave the food outside their room every day. The father also claimed that some people say that some relatives did black magic on them.

Irrespective of the reason for their confinement, the trio needed urgent care, Jalpa Patel of ‘Saathi Seva Group’ said. The NGO official said that the siblings were brought out with the help of the father and have been cleaned, shaved, and clothed in fresh garments.

Patel said they are planning to shift the trio to a place where they can get better food and treatment.

All 6 infected persons have been kept in single-room isolation in designated health care facilities by respective state governments. Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. The government is meanwhile doing a comprehensive contact tracing exercise for co-travelers, family, and others.

Last week, India had suspended flights from the UK till December 31 after the emergence of the new coronavirus strain in the country, that the UK government said has shown signs of being 70% more transmissible.

The government has said in a statement, “The situation is under careful watch and regular advice is being provided to the states for enhanced surveillance, containment, testing, and dispatch of samples to INSACOG labs.”

Neighbouring states encroached on its land 56 times in 2020: Assam Govt

Assam, Dec 29: The Assam government informed the assembly that the state has faced 56 instances of land encroachment in 2020 by neighbouring states such as Arunachal, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram.

In a written reply to a query by the leader of the opposition Debabrata Saikia, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that these 56 cases of land encroachments by neighbouring states were reported across 11 districts since 1 January of this year.

The highest 17 cases were reported from Cachar, which faced violent clashes between the people of Assam and Mizoram, Patowary said on behalf of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who also holds the home portfolio.

One person was killed in clashes in Cachar, he added.

Cachar is followed by West Karbi Anglong and Kamrup districts that reported seven instances of land encroachment, the minister said.

Other districts where Assam’s land was encroached on are Lakhimpur (six cases), Dhemaji and Karbi Anglong (five each), Jorhat (four), Karimganj (two), and Sadiya, Tinsukia, and Sivasagar (one each), Patowary said.

To recover the encroached land, the Assam government has written several letters to the respective states and the Centre, he said.

JD (U) MLA Techi Kaso slammed BJP for snatching 6 Minister

Arunachal Pradesh, Dec 28: Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso who is the JD (U) legislator in the Arunachal assembly slammed BJP over snatching his six Janata Dal-United MLAs and letting them join BJP.

Kaso said that “in central level JD (U) and BJP is an alliance and part of NDA but in Arunachal, this alliance is broken by this deed of BJP. Out of 60 assembly seats in Arunachal 7 MLAs won from Janata Dal united and our party was giving external support to the ruling BJP party with the majority of 41 MLAs.”

Techi Kaso who is the lone JD (U) MLA left behind after the merger of all his colleagues JD (U) MLAs expressed his sentiment over the game played by BJP in both municipal & Panchayat elections held recently on 22 December.

Kaso said “many of his cooperator candidates who filed their nominations to contest as a cooperator of Itanagar Municipal Corporation from Janata Dal united were lured and even threatened to withdraw their nominations to pave way for letting BJP candidates win Uncontested. Three of his JD (U) candidates went missing before nomination and did not reach home for a week. Two Janata Dal united were rejected by scrutiny breaking all rules and regulations.”

The returning officer, proposers were not allowed to submit proper reports.

All these games played by BJP against its partner JDU and now snatching 6 MLAs of Janata Dal united is very disappointing as mentioned by Janata Dal united senior leaders of Bihar.

However out of 20 cooperator candidates for Itanagar Municipal corporation, BJP won 10, Janata Dal-United won 9 and National people’s party won 1. BJP won 5 Uncontested by luring candidates for withdrawing nominations otherwise Janata Dal united will form Government in Municipal Corporation of Itanagar.

In Panchayat elections also BJP did the same and won thousands of Uncontested Gram Panchayat members and hundreds of Zilla Parishad members.

“This trend of making own candidates win Uncontested is very bad for democracy as citizens don’t get chance to cast their votes to select their desirable candidates & no meaning of universal adult franchise” Kaso added.

PM Modi flags off India’s first-ever driverless train

Delhi, Dec 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated India’s first driverless train operations on the Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line, connecting Janakpuri West and Botanical Garden along with the fully operational National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) services on the Airport Express Line on Monday.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also attended the via video conferencing.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said the inauguration of the first driverless metro train shows how fast the country is moving towards smart systems.

“The first metro in the country was started with the efforts of Atal Ji. When our govt was formed in 2014, only 5 cities had metro services and today 18 cities have metro rail services. By 2025, we will take this service to more than 25 cities,” the Prime Minister said.

All you need to know India’s 1st driverless train:

1) The first ‘driverless’ train in the country will roll out on the 37-km long Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro. The rail network is spread across the national capital region — Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden in Noida.

2) The Prime Minister’s office, in a statement, said that the driverless trains will be fully automated, which will eliminate the possibility of human error.

3) The driverless train technology was inaugurated on the Magenta Line, connecting Janakpuri West and Botanical Garden, but will be extended to the Pink Line (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar) by mid-2021.

4) The extension of this technology to the Pink Line will increase the driverless network on the Delhi Metro to around 94 km, which is nearly 9% of Delhi Metro’s total network.

5) The ‘driverless’ trains will have six coaches. Each coach can accommodate a maximum of 380 passengers, which translates to 2,280 passengers on each train.

6) It will be equipped with several advanced features such as better regeneration of energy during braking, energy-efficient subsystems like LED lighting and air conditioning systems. They are designed for a maximum speed of 95 kmph and operational speed of 85 kmph, the Delhi Metro had said.

7) The cabin-less trains would be able to accommodate 40 commuters more in a six coach train as the driver’s cab will not be required in such trains.

8) With this, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will enter the elite league of 7% of the world’s Metro networks, which can operate without drivers.

The initial launch was set for May this year, however, the program had to be postponed because of the coronavirus lockdown.
